Utility bill payments can be made online with an electronic check or credit card (convenience fees apply). Otherwise, payments can be mailed, placed in the drop box located in the east parking lot adjacent to Brookfield Central High School, or in person in the Treasurer's Office at City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Bills are mailed quarterly and become due in the months of January, April, July and October.
The City does not perform final readings for utility bills for sales of property; buyers and sellers should have the utility charges prorated as part of the closing process. If you are currently on the Automatic Payment program please notify the Accounting office in writing to ensure that your utility account is removed from direct debit, and the bill is mailed to the correct address. If an installment remains due on a property tax bill, contact the Waukesha County Treasurer for payment options. If a parcel is sold, the address change for property tax bills is processed as part of recording the change in ownership of a parcel – no additional action is needed. Changes in mailing addresses for property tax bills not connected with a change in ownership, should be sent to the Assessor’s office at City Hall. Changes in mailing addresses for utility bills not connected with a change in ownership should be sent to the Accounting department at City Hall or Finance Email.
Payment types accepted by the City in the Treasurer's Office, include cash or check. Payments may be made in person at the Treasurer's Office in City Hall, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until January 31st. Payments can also be made at one of the four Tri-City Bank branches located in Brookfield during the Tax Collection period. You can find information regarding Tri City collection hours on the tax insert enclosed with the bill, or look on the News and Announcements page starting in early December. In addition, a Payment Drop Box is located in the east parking lot at Brookfield City Hall, adjacent to Brookfield Central High School. Mailed payments are encouraged and should be MAILED EARLY. A return envelope is enclosed with your tax bill for your convenience. The City’s sanitary sewer rates provide for an automatic credit for residential customers for the summer quarter (June-September) in that the sanitary sewer charges for that quarter are based on an average of the usage for the three previous quarters rather than actual water usage. Customers who have significant water use during other times of the year can apply to have a deduct meter installed, which will provide for sewer charges to be based on actual wastewater put into the sanitary sewer. Installation of the deduct meter is at the property owner’s expense. Applications for the separate meter can be made through the Accounting office at (262) 782-9650 or Finance Email.

A residential Knox Box is a door-hanging key box that was developed to secure residential entrance keys in order provide entrance into a home to emergency responders. It is ideal for individuals who have a history of medical problems, are currently experiencing an illness or recent injury, live alone or use an electronic calling/medical alert service. The City of Brookfield Fire Department participates in the Residential Knox Box Program, because it is a secure way for firefighters to gain access to your home without forced entry if you are unable to open the door or if a relative asks us to do a welfare check at your home. To obtain a Residential Knox Box you have to purchase the City of Brookfield’s Fire Department chosen model through Knox via their website or a mail-in order form, which can be picked up or mailed to you from Station 1 located at 2100 N Calhoun Rd in the Safety Building. There are also no additional costs to have your case heard by the Judge at trial other than your time off of work, etc. to attend the trial. There may be additional costs involved in subpoenaing a witness or hiring an expert witness to appear on your behalf to testify at trial should your case demand the same. If you appear at an Initial Appearance/Pre-trial Conference with a citation for Operating After Suspension/Revocation, the City Prosecutor will review your driving record with you to determine if you are suspended for non-payment of a Municipal Citation. If that is the case, the City Prosecutor may propose a settlement that allows you to follow a specific procedure to reinstate your driver's license. If, after the conference with the City Prosecutor, you are still unsure as to what you need to do to reinstate your driver's license, ask the City Prosecutor to re-explain your settlement proposal or ask the Judge when your case is called.

The City typically owns property adjacent to roadways which is referred to as the Right of Way (ROW). This area is where most utilities are located. The pruning or removal of trees located in this area is performed by the City. Residential streets typically have a ROW of 30’ from the center of the road. Arterial streets have a greater ROW. The Right-of-Way can vary greatly on both residential and arterial streets.
City owned trees are pruned on a city-wide programmed cycle. The City is divided into six forestry management units. Within each unit, all public trees in parks, street right-of-ways and public grounds are pruned. After all six units are pruned, the cycle will start over. Stated simply, all City trees will be pruned once every six years. This is the most effective process to care for City trees.
Annually, the City arborist conducts a city-wide tree removal survey of public trees. This usually occurs in September. Trees identified for removal will be marked with an orange dot. All dead or hazardous trees marked will be scheduled to be removed over the winter months.

A: The City chose to maintain the up the drive service which requires using a 32 gallon can so it can be manually lifted by the worker to empty into the truck. The smaller cans do not have wheels and can not be retrofit to get them. Recycling pick up will still be performed weekly so it should not be as heavy as a full trash can since recyclables are generally lighter than trash. With the up the drive service, the recycling can does not have to be taken very far outside the garage either as opposed to the curbside collection which requires both garbage and recycling to be taken to the curb each week..

A: The Contractor will collect Bulky Items curbside weekly on the resident’s regularly scheduled collection day for no additional cost. Resident should call Advanced Disposal before the collection day to inform them of the bulky item placed at the end of driveway for pick-up and to get any additional information necessary for collection and disposal of the item. Bulky Items includes the following items generated at residential premises with no one item exceeding 50 pounds in weight: •furniture, including metal desks, mattresses and storage cabinets, •tied rolls of carpeting meeting the following requirements (four roll maximum per week): - not larger than 6 inches in diameter - no longer than 4 feet in length •sinks, concrete laundry tubs, and cast iron plumbing fixtures, •windows and doors, •large toys, •bicycles, •dismantled swing sets, •up to 5 securely tied bundles of lumber per Customer each month, meeting the following requirements: - not larger than 18 inches in diameter - no longer than 4 feet in length - free of nails or with nails bent over - from construction projects, including garages and sheds. •lawn mowers and snow throwers with no gas or oil in them, •any item (other than lumber) that can be cut or broken down meeting the following requirements: not longer than 6 feet in length and weighing less than 50 pounds. Bulky Items does not include any item weighing in excess of 50 pounds or any of the following: •material generated at non-residential premises, including commercial business operations, •yard waste and branches, •sod, soil and stone, •broken concrete and asphalt, •brick, block, and stone, •railroad ties or similar type of retaining wall timbers, •remodeling debris, including shingles, •animal waste, •liquids, including paint, •hazardous waste, •fuel oil tanks, •any automotive parts including vehicle batteries and tires
This information is provided so you can begin planning now for this future water main assessment. The assessment may be paid in a lump sum or in a ten year timeframe at a 7% interest rate.

There are other rules that apply for oddly configured or small lots that affect the assessment costs. These sample assessments do NOT include the cost for property owners to install water service from the lot line to the house. These costs can range from $3,000 to $6,000 or more depending on internal plumbing, distance from the lot line to the house, trees or patios that may need to be restored, etc.
These water sprinkling regulations apply to all properties in the City, whether on private wells or the municipal system.
Exceptions: The Utility will allow exceptions to the policy if the property owner contacts the Utility to describe the condition for which an exception is sought and if the request fits into the following categories:• watering of newly established lawns, shrubs, or trees,• irrigation of crops,• commercial car washes that recycle their water,• golf courses that draw water from on-site retention ponds.
Additional restrictions may be placed on water sprinkling based on the need to conserve water resulting from dry conditions, mechanical failure of the wells/pumps or other emergency.
